DESCRIPTION OF FACILITIES
Accommodation and Meals
The village of Butiama has limited suitable accommodation. However, for large groups of visitors, we can make hotel bookings in nearby locations, such as Musoma (1 hour’s drive) or Bunda (the same distance).
At the moment we offer two options: Butiama Bed & Breakfast, and Mwitongo Lodge. Butiama Bed & Breakfast is a homestay with 2 ensuite bedrooms and twin beds. Advance bookings are necessary to ensure availability.
Mwitongo Lodge has twelve ensuite bedrooms. Its amenities include a swimming pool. Its restaurant offers a selection of local and continental dishes. All rooms are supplied with piped, heated water, and grid electricity supply. During power outages, a standby power generator is turned on for three hours each evening. Meals are available for visitors featuring local dishes and a selection of international cuisine.

Community Involvement
BCTE works with the local government and community to ensure that tourism activities benefit the local community through the following ways:
- Employment of guides and interpreters
- Contributions to the Village Development Fund from visitors’ fees (which are applied to social service programs)
- Members of the community provide services to visitors: home stay accommodation, local cuisine, transport, and cultural performances.
- Interaction of local residents with the wider Global community through visitors.
Conclusion
BCTE’s basic objectives are to place the village of Butiama on the world map and allow visitors to gain an informed knowledge of aspects of the customs and traditions of the Zanaki ethnic group and the early life of Tanzania’s founding president, the late Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere (1922 – 1999).
To future and past visitors we say karibu, welcome.
Madaraka Nyerere,
Coordinator
